Rou's philosophy

On Rou:

Rou is a really laidback guy. Because he's big, he's old, and he knows he can't die in any of the usual ways. But he's got this philosophy: Learn things. It's perfectly natural to be unspeakably old yet unspeakably ignorant. Immortal = wise is a baseless assumption. A rock can sit there forever and forever be dumb, knowing nothing beyond the weather above and the ground below. (And that's the problem with most of Rou's kindred. They've been squatting on the same turf since they fell from the sky. Some of them can't even speak.)

Now assuming a rock rolled away, crossed the length and breadth of the world, it would still only be a rock. So Rou became many things. He eventually became a man, too.

The subject of Rou's zodiac standing is a delicate one to broach. Although I refer to him as a zodiac creature to acknowledge that, yes, he's made of the same stuff as the others, Rou is not a member of the zodiac.
