I guess this post marks Machi officially joining the family now, one year after she first appeared in a Sand Dance artwork...

"That wasn't a very good story."

"No?"

"It wasn't."

"But it's a very old story."

"Doesn't make it any good."

Drawn in the wake of the March 11, 2011 quake-tsunami in Japan. Eliana H. Oda's Machi to the left and Eirendi to the right.

Not officially a part of the gallery (as of yet), as the picture is not Sand Dance canon in any form. I may still add it for archiving purposes......

Charmaine's "Love Reality"-inspired doodles of Eiri and Ceru, and a portrait of Eiri and the theorbo she inherited from Rou.

"What does one have to do to describe the self well? Gender, age, nationality, race, name, 'title'. Symbols to fulfill these criteria, we have many of them. But these symbols, how much can they tell of the whole? For example, just within me, a lone human being: masculine and feminine, child-like and adult-like, strength and weakness, tenderness and coldness, such directly-opposed elements exist together.... Just as all people do, I carry many contradictions and infinities...."

— Maaya Sakamoto, 2003.12.10, Shounen Alice album concept (translated by Miyuki)

One of my earliest inspirations. I didn't think to look up the quote until now, oddly.

Eiri's character-based name doesn't translate, but if the characters were to be read individually, they would mean "hey" (roughly; it's just a sound you make before speech to indicate someone or to get his/her attention), "to know/to recognize", and "to hand over/to deliver" respectively. I guess I sort of tried to choose characters that were applicable to her as a character.

Ceru's character-based name translates to "color of", which is rather neat? Because Ceru is derived from cerulean, "the color of the sky". Of course, there's no etymological basis behind the coincidence here: http://www.etymonline.com/index.php?term=cerulean — As you can see, the "ceru-" portion of cerulean was likely derived from the Latin referring to the heavens, seas, fields and leaves.
